Cambuslang Community Council have written to Police Scotland objecting strongly to the proposed closure of Cambuslang Police Station. We have requested a copy of the assessment made that apparently suggests that retention of the police station is no longer viable. Our letter also notes that concern about crime and anti-social behaviour in Cambuslang is high and that the rate of crime in the area is above the Scottish and South Lanarkshire averages. Further, it states that “the closure of the front-desk of Cambuslang Police Station, and now the proposed closure of the entire station, are contributing to deep-seated public unease in the community about the centralisation of policing and perceptions of diminishing local accountability” as well as undermining the viability and resilience of Cambuslang town centre by taking away public service jobs. A copy of the CCC letter to Police Scotland is here.
