Cambuslang Community Council are hosting a celebration of the ‘Greening the Main Street’ project on Saturday, 27th August, from 11am to 2pm. Free tea/coffee and cakes will be available outside Universal Connections on Cambuslang Main Street.  All are welcome!

Last year, the Community Council was awarded £35,000 under the Scottish Government Communities Capital Fund for a project ‘Greening the Main Street’ to improve the appearance of the Main Street. 15 street planters, 60 hanging baskets and almost 30 barrier baskets have been installed together with welcome banners.  A new plant bed is also currently being created on the north side of the Main Street. In addition, a new community group ‘Cambuslang in Bloom’ has also been established with 25 volunteers. The event on Saturday 27th has been organised to thank the many volunteers who contributed to the project – from Cambuslang in Bloom, Cambuslang Allotment Gardens, Urban Alfresco Community Garden Centre, First Steps Future Training, Universal Connections, South Lanarkshire Council, Cairns Primary School, James Aiton Primary School, Friends of Cambuslang Park, Lightburn Elderly Association Project, Healthy n Happy Community Development Trust, and the many business owners and managers in shops and companies along Cambuslang Main Street. We also want to thank the wider community of Cambuslang who have supported the project.
